Paramount Chief of the Aflao Traditional area Togbui Amenya Fiti V has thrown his support behind traders operating at the GRA customs division’s designated parking lot 7 at the Aflao border following a move by the division to sack the traders from the lot and to lease same to OA travel and tours.

Speaking to members of the ‘Kutrikula’ traders association during a courtesy call on him at his palace in Aflao, the paramount chief said the concerns of the traders who are mostly indigenes of Aflao have come to his attention. He said “as the traditional ruler and the custodian of the land, it is my duty to ensure the well-being of my children” adding that nobody or institution be it the GRA customs division or OA travel and tours can sack any trader from the lot 7 and for that matter any area that falls under the traditional area without prior notice or consultation with the custodians of the land adding that although all lands around the border now belonged to government , those lands were originally released to government by the people of Aflao and forcefully removing the traders without providing them with any alternative for their relocation or otherwise is inhumane.

Torgbui Fiti V appealed to the GRA custom’s division to take a second look at and take the plight and livelihoods of the traders into consideration. He assured the traders of his resolve to engage the authorities to ensure that their concerns were addressed and adviced them to remain calm and go about their lawful engagements in peace.
